Nanuk

Autism assistance dog

About Me:

Education & Training

I’m Nanuk, according to my owner, a malamute-husky mix. This isn’t a scam, sled dogs can also become assistance dogs! Of course, I’m very special and fully aware of it. I was abandoned when I was two, and I spent almost a year in a shelter. When I saw my new owners I knew right away that they would be my forever humans, for real this time.
We got along great from the get go, and as I’m super smart, I quickly realised that I’d have a great life with them, so I became a very even-keeled and calm dog.

We started visiting a very kind human, called Ágota. She came up with a bunch of new tricks for me, which I was very happy for because I love to work. My treat portion went up significantly as a result! Since then we train every day and have become an even better team. Now we’re truly inseparable!
My owner is autistic, and he has difficulties with certain stimuli. I help him with social situations the most, and of course, petting my majestic coat is extremely relaxing.

When we went to Kecskemét last time, I showed off my favourite tasks and tricks, which are almost second nature to me now. They were also watching how much I pay attention to my dear owner, and that I don’t pick up some lowly fries that fall off the table (it would have been delicious). Naturally, I did great, so I got a very cool new harness, and when I wear it I can go anywhere, even to the fancy museums. By now, I’ve become a very sophisticated and culturally savvy dog. I mostly prefer statues, I don’t really get why my human is staring at those splashes on the wall for so long..
