About Me:
Dear Friends and Animal Lovers! I am Mázli, a proud representative of The Dogs for a Smile Foundation.
Based on my teeth, according to the veterinarians, I was born on May 15, 2020.
In the heat of August, I was found in a garbage of the Megyeri cemetery together with my brothers. Fortunately, I survived the difficult start of my life and my owner was also lucky to have found me. At that time she didn’t even know that my hair doesn’t fall out and that I don’t cause problems with my presence for people who are allergic to dogs. That’s why I finally got the name Lucky, in Hungarian: Mázli. Not only my name, but also my story is lucky.
When my owner saw me, she knew right away that I: the discarded little ball of black fur with a white heart on my chest would be their birthday present instead of a purebred dog. At the beginning my owner’s dream was to have a smart, well-behaved dog, with whom they could help the needy and people with special needs. She completely let go of this dream when she took me home, as the dog breeders, she contacted earlier, told her that a non-purebred dog cannot be a service or therapy dog. Regardless, she did not want to spoil my upbringing as a first-time dog owner, and immediately after I got home, she called a dog trainer: a real dog whisperer, so that I would be properly trained and well-educated from the beginning. This dog whisperer recognized in me above average intelligence, the ability to learn quickly, and the fact that I am a strong-nerved, pure-spirited, calm dog who can accomplish anything if properly motivated. This initial encouragement was also confirmed by the owners we met during walks who already had real therapy dogs. By this time, I was already 1 year old and my owner decided to show me to real therapy dog training specialists. From there, the events accelerated. After overcoming many tough obstacles, we finally found With Dogs for a Smile Foundation and were in good hands. By the time I was 3 years old, we also managed to pass the necessary exams.
From the very beginning, I really enjoy playing with both the tiny children and the older ones or the really old ones, which my owner calls therapeutic work.
I like to play the ball, soccer, to show several tricks, that I learnt, to build obstacle course from the participants and go through them, to walk with people in wheelchairs, to show the participants what to look out for and what tools they will need if they want to keep an animal like me at their home. I like to kiss pretty girls and boys if they let me. I am happy to see that participants get motivated when I am there. They say that I bring fun, warmth, zest for life, and I am very proud of even achieving that those who were initially afraid of me to participate interactively by the end.
I found my place at The Dog for a Smile Foundation, and I hope that for a long time I will be able to bring the same happiness and sense of success that I feel during the sessions to many healthy and living with special needs youngsters or elderly.
